Value since 1888
Komjanc Alessio was one of the first who understood the potential of this area: and so started selling wine in bottles and aimed at a quality wine production.
The winery is located on the slopes of the hill of San Floriano del Collio in a panoramic position, from where you can see the Prealps and the Eastern Alps. The founder of the winery is Alessio, whose great-grandparents began producing wine in the 19th century.
The local newspaper Gospodarski List reported that in 1888 only the wine of Florjan Komjanc was declared a “good and perfect wine” by a Viennese commission, charged with the selection of the best wines for a special exposition in Vienna during the celebration of the Emperor’s 40th jubilee.
In the Seventies Alessio set up his own wine estate and in 1973 bottled his first wine under the ‘Alessio Komjanc’ label. In 2000 his four sons: Benjamin, Roberto, Patrik and Ivan joined him in the “azienda” working all together.

Terroir - The Collio
In Collio you can enjoy an extremely favourable climate for vine growing. The Julian Pre-Alps provide effective protection from northerly winds and the proximity of the Adriatic coast favours the persistence of a mild and temperate microclimate. The difference in temperature between day and night gives the wines their characteristic aromatic note.
Aware of the need of a certification for sustainable production, in 2020 the Komjanc winery joined the National Quality System for Integrated Production and certificated the entire production process and its products.

Ponca
Marl, or ponca as we call it, is a rock formation that tends to disintegrate easily due to weather conditions and tillage. This disintegration first produces flaky fragments, which then become the ideal soil for winemaking.
